Flying with your new puppy:
If you decide to fly in to pick up your puppy, here are some tips.
This way you will be with your pup the whole time and will know that he/ she is safe and comfortable. This also gives us the opportunity to meet you and introduce your pup to you. Face-to-face is always a good thing for us and for you!
This process is simple. You will simply book your flight with an airline that allows pets, and be sure to tell them your pup is coming home too! There is usually an additional charge for pets. We've found that flying with your pup is often cheaper than having him/ her shipped to you. Just be sure to book your flight right away when you reserve your pup so that you get the best airfare possible. Your pup must be at least 8 weeks old to fly. Some airlines may require them to be older or to have a health certificate. If this is the case, and you choose that airline, please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly. If you need a health certificate, there will be an additional charge.
We recommend Southwest Airlines, if they fly into your airport. They're inexpensive and easy to work with. Delta is a good option if your pup is a little older and may be too large to fit under the seat. They will have other options available for you. There are many airline choices, so take a look at the links on the right and decide what works best for you (or call your own favorite airline!).
Your pup will fly as your carry-on, in a soft-sided travel carrier. You can usually buy them at your local pet store or on amazon.com. They come in all shapes and sizes, so make sure you get one that's FAA approved and will fit a pup that's about 10-15 pounds- or larger if he/ she is older. Be sure to check with us before your make your final purchase.
What to bring with you:
- Your puppy's travel crate with a small blanket
- Wet wipes
- Towels or paper towels (just in case!)
- Collar and Leash
- Small food and water dishes
- Bottle of water
- A couple small toys
You will need to fly into GSP or ATL. We can plan to meet you, if you fly into Greenville on a day that we will be there. We're a couple hours north of Atlanta or an hour south of Greenville, if you'd like to rent a car and drive to our home yourself.
